Most of us "do it yourself'ers" don't have access to certain tools just for "around the house" fix it jobs. While trying to clean my carburetor on my LT1000, I came up with a great idea.
I took my carb apart and put it into an empty coffee can. Filled it up (just over the top of the parts) with carb cleaner. After putting the plastic lid back on the can, I placed the can on top of my outside A/C unit. The weight of the can kept it in place while the A/c was running. You can apply your own safety mechanisms if you want. But the can I used, never moved the whole time the unit was on. I watched it for a few minutes, and it never moved. But, inside the can, was agitating like crazy.. After about 1/2hr, all my parts were clean as a whistle.
I'm sure this will work with lots of other things besides carbs.
NOTE.... If your can spills over and damages something, don't come crying to me. Your safety is your own responsibility...
I also collect old outboard motors and occasionally get a gas tank that is rusty or cruddy. I add some kerosene and a handful of nuts and bolts, strap it to the trailer behind my rider, and cut the grass. Works great.

That's a great idea... I've got a bunch of rusted nuts, bolts & washer that need a good cleaning. I'll have to try that. As long as its mostly sealed, what ever cleaner you use, can be reused several times.
