the other day i was mowing my yard and hit something, the blade stopped and motor shut off, then the oil started pouring out the bottom of the motor, motor is a Briggs and Stratton, unfortunately I can not find the model number, this is an older push mower that was given to me. i opened the oil pan and a small bolt fell out?? Not sure where the bolt would have come from inside the motor, also noticed a "tooth" was missing on one of the lower gears and another tooth was bent.. i am not sure how to get the shaft off to completely open the engine up.. my question is, is this something i can try to repair on my own or do i need to seek a professional, I rather do things on my own to save money of course.. :confused2::eek:

thanks to any and all help

Model, type and code numbers will be printed on the engine blower housing.
Depending on age they could on the front, side or rear.
Find those and somebody could help you.

sounds like you bent the crank and damaged the oil seal, that mower is probsbly ruined and needs another engine. pics would be great
