I sold my hustler 60 and wife's bad boy. I bought two new hustler diesel z last year and both lost the clutch before the 50 hour mark. I spoke with the dealer and they said i was doing nothing to cause this. Let me say we have 13 acres total and do not mow commercial so here in the fla panhandle we have a once a week cycle on centipede so it is not loaded with heavy grass. Now the right hand fuel tank has failed under the instrument panel with fuel coming out under the electronics and we are right at 50 hours use. So both mowers have been picked up by the dealer and repaired and returned in a reasonable amount of time But i am starting to think going with diesel z for a forever mower may not have been a good choice but i am not convinced because i cannot find feedback from anyone on this model. I am going to service the first oil change and trans filter for the next season but i am starting to re think maybe a different gas model if i do not learn more about the reliability.
My 60 inch hustler had a impeccable performance record and blades belts only. fast agile and comfortable but the ride was so rough i let the air down to below recommended and still had a issue after 5 hrs once a week so i thought a heavier mower with a good seat was the answer and don't get me wrong i love mowing my little park.
So if anyone has a suggestion i am all ears. Thank you and have a merry Christmas.

You may of gotten a couple of 8AM Monday or Friday 5PM mowers but none of that is related to having a mower with a diesel engine. Those same issues could of resulted on the same mower with the gas engine.

Sounds like Hustler drop the ball by cheapening out on parts or it is a quality control issue. PTO clutches should last a lot longer than 50 hrs. The concern would why they failed. Unrated or voltage problems are two possible; maybe even bearings. As for fuel leak it should had never happen. Luckily its diesel and not gasoline. Gas fumes tend ignite a lot easier.

I know some Bad Boy mowers have changed PTO clutches due clutch failures. The precious were of a poorer design. The new clutches are of a proven design and have a higher torque rating.

At least they were not like the electric clutch they were using on some of the smaller 35hp ish stump grinders a few years back, The clutches on those were catching on fire.

Haven't heard about the OEM that was on but of course I haven't stump grinders in the either.

I do know the BB one were losing the blade stops so the blades kept turning on disengagement on the two I replaced. If it wasn't for the pulley bearings they would had just fell apart. A little Loctite probably prevented that failure.

The only reason I knew about it was because my nephew does stump grinding. And it was a bulletin to the owners. It is an ogura 3V pulley style,
