Looking for ztr mower. I have about 3.5-4 acres to mow. Very flat with approx 15 trees. I have looked at several, however have not used one yet. I am looking to spend around $4000-$6000. I am leaning towards Hustler Fastrak, but need more help. How does the hustler stack up against Ferris, Gravely, SCAG and Bobcat.

I like Ferris. Have higher grade hydro gears. Bigger tires. Kawasaki engine. I bought a is600z for 5400 out the door.

With that much area to mow you may want to consider the Hustler FasTrak SD. You really need a high-end Residential or low-end Commercial ZTR to hold up cutting 4 acres regularly. Scag will be your most expensive of the others you mentioned, Kubota & Gravely a little less followed by Ferris and Bobcat. All good machines!! If I were recommending a Gravely I would suggest the Pro-Turn 52 currently on sale at my local dealer for $6,299 MSRP(regularly $6,999). Good luck finding the right one for you.

Is that the Kawa FS engine or the B & S Commercial Turf??? That would be a GREAT deal on the Kawa(MSRP is $6799), and a fairly good deal on the B & S(MSRP is $6299). My auto mechanic(and his son) both have Simplicity ZTR's and they brag about how much they like them. I don't think you will be unhappy with that ZTR. Post some pics when you get it home(we wanna see it:0)

It is with the kawasaki. I have never had really good luck with Briggs. The one on my Ariens snowblower seems to be holding up well.

Ariens used to use the Vanguard engines on a lot of their equipment(my next-door-neighbors 15-yr-old Zoom 42 has a 18hp Vanguard that is still running strong). In fact I had the same exact engine on a Lawn Chief lawn tractor(Ace Hardware store brand) that was used for almost 26 years and even though the tractor deck was falling apart that Vanguard was still running like brand new. Like has been said....maintenance on any small engine is key to its performance and durability. However, the Vanguard is the best engine B & S ever produced.
