As the title states I have a 1970 B&S engine with points/condenser of unknown condition.

Rather than mess around testing and fixing, would it be possible to switch to an electronic ignition?

The part number for the stock magneto is BRIGGS 398811.

My engine is serial number is: 170707-1128-99

I found another forum where some users said you would have to have B&S r
epolarize the fly wheel and others said you did not.

If possible, can you suggest a amazon or other link to the part?

Edit/Update- does anyone have experience with this?

Okay what you need to know about the 17 series. Check the engine to see if it is aluminum or cat iron. IF aluminum then it is simple matter of installing the 398811 coil and clip the lead to the points. If cast iron then the flywheel would need re-magnetized.

Original Coil is PN 298968 which is NLA.

$16.09 for points kit directly from BS. Should be less elsewhere. In my experience they last a very long time.

OP didn't give the full model number but I don't recall a cast iron B&S engine in either series 17 or 19?
