Hello fellas.

New to the forums and was hoping to get some advice. I am looking to purchase a new mower for a 3 acre lawn we have. My dad and I have purchased 2 craftsman mowers in the last 5 years and have not been thrilled with the quality of the machines. Our LTS2000 who is not more than 2 years old "blew" the transmission and Sears is asking for $1000 for it

We want to go another way, and looking for quality. What am I looking at here? Toro? Deere? Any advice is welcome.

My recommendation for the best bang-for-your-buck lawn tractor is Husqvarna's. Try to find a dealer, rather than buying from a big box store. Below is a link to the Husqvarna website. My "favorite" is the YT48XLS with the fabricated deck, Kawasaki engine and locking differential hydro tranny. Check 'em out:

If I were buying to mow a three acre lawn I'd be looking for a high end residential or low end commercial ZTR, something in the Toro Line up or Hustler maybe a 48 to 54" deck. If I didn't have the money for new I'd check Craigslit for a good used ZTR. A ztr would cut your time in half as well as providing you with a better cut than that of a lawn tractor.

User Ric is probably right...for 3 acres you need more machine, so if you were to get a lawn tractor I would suggest the Husqvarna GT52XLS which has a MSRP of $3,299. At that point you're pretty close to the price of a ZTR....which would have the benefits pointed out.
