Hello everyone, I've just joined the forum and looking forward to contributing.

I initially found you all because I've bought a second-hand Kubota that has been neglected but with a little tender loving care will be eventually a properly working machine. I've had to fit a new battery and leads, sort out some wiring problems, some of which are still puzzling me, and lots more minor adjustments including freeing off rusty controls. However the biggest job, and one that concerned me somewhat was the fact that the foot pedal seemed to do what it wanted irrespective of what my foot required, forward and reverse worked when they felt like it. I checked the fluid level in the transmission and it was just showing on the bottom of the dipstick, I thought "EUREKA I've cracked" it but there was no improvement after topping up, so I took the cutting deck off to try to get to the linkage but there was no way I could reach it among the mass of pipes and wires that it was hiding within. I decided the only way to get access was to take off the rear panel that the seat sits upon, that was a challenge in itself because there are 14 bolts holding it on, all are about half an inch too long and were corroded over the exposed threads. Lots of easing oil left on overnight and next day about 3 hours later the 14 came off and the panel too, exposing the offending link. Believe it or not all that was wrong was a loose locknut, after a tighten the pedal did exactly what was required. I put it all back and I'm pleased that forward and reverse are fine now. While I had the deck off I checked the oil in the bevel box and topped it up, I also sharpened the cutters.

A test run round the garden gave a beautiful cut and I was seriously chuffed by it. The only job left is to get the temperature gauge working and to find out where all the wires go that are blanked off with insulating tape.

The mower is named Kenneth the Kubota and he's settled in with our other mower Herbie. Herbie is a Husqvarna rider with the cutting deck out front and his articulated steering makes him ideal for cutting round trees, he's getting a bit old now and starting is not his strong point but once going with a bit of help to spin the engine he does a good job.

We have names for everything with an engine; there's Stan the strimmer, the two mowers, Trevor the Triumph that we've owned since new, Bertie the beamer and Polly the Peugeot. Quite a family really
