Hedge trimmer leaking fuel what a daft place to put a plug in the side of a tank

Been waiting months for a recoil spring to popup in the bits and pieces that come around finally got one that matches put it in would not start so took apart again and the coil had moved over the years so reset the gap and away it went

Now to my problem I know its a cheap unit but will do me for the few times I will need it but I need to seal the plug on the side I was going to use mastic but would the fuel burn it through

Want to fix it but idealy using some thing for d round the house or out my tool box not expensive stuff
