Hi, wonder if anybody can help with my problems with a Hayter mower (B&S engine).
It was hard to start and keep the mower going and it wouldn't fire. I kept on pulling the cord without success, but it eventually got jammed and didn't want to return.
It appeared as if the engine had seized as I turned the blade but it would go past a half a turn. However putting a pencil in the spark plug hole and turning the flywheel showed the piston was moving.
I had removed the cord housing and got to the flywheel, eventually the flywheel seemed to free up and everything was back to normal.
However, although the cord would return when the housing was off the mower, when I attached to the mower the cord would pull but not return.
Question is, how does the cord mechanism move independently of the shaft when it's connected to it - I could see how this would ever work but could be being dim!
Help would be much appreciated.
