I have not been around for awhile. I dont have internet at home anymore. Last I counted.. I have atleast 25 snappers now! here are a few of the latest additions.

Old school 21" and 18" aluminum decks. Picked up these two from the original owner, real interesting ole fella! I talked to him for quite awhile. Said he had a snapper tiller at
at one time, but I was to late for it. One of these days I will find some snapper tillers!

A few walk behinds, but not all of them!

Bought these three 2-cycle snappers from a guy for $50, then on the way home I found this mint series 6 RER! Still looking for a W/R 2-cycle.

Picked this up from an older lady today for a whole $15! Fired right up, and cut about an acre of my yard tonight.

Little shed I planned on tearing down is FULL! Getting ready to build a snapper building for all my snappers.

Main shed has its share as well, plus several in my garage.

I also put this one together for my dad. After all, it is his fault I'm addicted! He sat me on his comet HV (which I still have) many years ago, and I've been in love every since. He started push mowing his yard for exercise years ago, but has been having some health issues lately. I think he was reluctant to use it at first, but now my mom tells me he loves it. Im sure it brings back lots of memories for him. He used to ride me and my brother around all the time on his ole comet. His didnt have the foot bar you hold down to keep the blades engaged, I heard from my mom that the first time he used it he just pulled the blade lever up and took off. Made a few trips around the yard before he realized something was not right..haha. I stopped in for a bit today and caught him using it.

WOW!!! I love vintage lawn mowers! They were well made back then! Mowers these days are not as good unless you pay about 1K+. Keep us posted on the collection! I wish I could have as many mowers.

Do you still use them or simply store them?

Alan, as you know, I'm only about 20 miles away from you. I bet I sold those 2-cycles new. I remember a regional rep from Tecumseh once told me that they had only a couple of dealers in his region that would stock that 2-cycle Snapper. It was the easiest starting and easiest to sell mower I think we ever had. I loved them and actually bought one for myself as well. We probably sold 75-100 of them. They turned out to be the most impressive piece of junk I ever put my hands on :ashamed:

I still use most of them. Yesterday I used 3 different RERs and 2 different push mowers to cut my yard.

I bet you did sell the two self propel mowers! He told me he got the push from a flea market in Indiana to use for parts. Guess he never needed parts because it is complete. He quit using them a few years back, said he was tired of mixing fuel and he had got a deal on a Honda. I put fuel in the 1st one and cranked away. It hit one time, but never ran. Put fuel in the 2nd, and I kid you not it roared to life in one pull! Screaming at full rpm with no response from the throttle lever. That tells me it must be sucking air some where. 3rd non self propel is lock up tight as a drum. I was in Nashville a couple weeks ago and had some time to kill. Went to a mower dealer and found another 2-cycle tecumseh snapper. It was a newer model ( I'd say mid 90's ), this engine was all black. Had a tag hanging on it that said "needs flywheel, $50". I had no idea the 2-cycle tecumseh was used on snappers this new. I thought about making an offer, but figured I really don't need it and besides I paid $50 for 3! They want $50 for one! Haha

Agreed! I have two that run. Last week I scrapped an s-10 truck and spotted one in the junk yard. Asked what they wanted for it, and he said. $100. Somebody had pulled the engine all apart. The front of the deck was cut out, and the side discharge was enlarged. They must have been using it as a bush hog. I did pull the steering hoop and rear tires off of it though.

Found me a Wisconsin robin powered 80's commercial snapper self propelled tonight! Even if it is 4 cycle I'm still excited. Been used hard and I probably over paid for it, but oh well.

Actually my pac-n-sac does blow a good amount of dust and small clippings/leaves out of that area. It catches the most of it though, so I guess I can't complain too much.

That's exactly how mine is as well. All of my commercial snappers have the 4 cycle Wisconsin robin engines on them, I absolutely love them.

Are those Wisconsin robin 4cycles hard to find or expensive to repair? I have a 78 V212P and I think the rod is going bad in the 3.5hp Briggs on it, valves also need adjusted, and I've been thinking about trying to find one of those to put on it rather than sink the time and money (both of which I have little of:)) into the Briggs engine. I was just going to sell it as is, but I can't bare to part with it, so I think I'll set it aside eventually to restore it. I also have a hi vac with the 7hp Briggs Intek which I think is about an 05 model. I finally got it running after buying it a few months ago and thought it was going to be my one and only, go to mower, but theres something about mowing with the old stuff. And after using it, the newer ones just don't seem as solid as the old ones, like my 78. I think I have the sickness as well, my collection is just getting started:thumbsup: Unfortunately (or fortunately), I have it really bad, as I have a thing for lawn boys as well:laughing: I need a bigger yard so I can use them all:wink:

I completely agree with you that they don't make them like they used to. Absolutely though, keep your snapper.

They are fairly hard to find, they are definitely hard to find parts for, and when you do, they are very expensive.i have had to find all of my parts online. For example, I just spent $40.00 for a carb rebuild kit. A different mower w/ a WR EH18V I have, I spent over $200.00 on a carb. They are very strong, very reliable engines as long as your regular maintenance is performed. That funny you mentioned lawnboys, I have just picked up a couple of those lately...

Are the rear wheels on that Lawn-Boy on the top picture original or have they been replaced. I am on the hunt for wheels, because I also got an old Lawn-Boy for 40$ and the wheels are really loose. So, I would like to know what could fit right.

Alanky -- thanks for the info about the two-cycle Snappers. I didn't know that existed and now I'm on a mission to look for them. There used to be a Snapper factory a little south of Atlanta and I do see a lot of the brand around here but now I know to look for two-cycles.

I like your method of stacking.

I know opinions can be mixed on the Tecumsehs but that trio of 2cycles is way cool! I used to have a non-sp snapper with the 4cycle 5hp TVS 120 and it was great. That's another one I wish I never sold. I do admire your collection there, I may have to start stacking mine like you have yours though as I'm running out of room in my garage. Right now most of the space is taken up with firewood and I barely have room for the 6 mowers, 2 weedeaters and one edger that I have. I think I'll limp through the winter as-is and adjust how I stack the firewood next season...because I can't pass up good deals on old snapers when they pop up.

Are those 3 Tecs the only 2cycles you have or do you have any others?

Thanks! I have the three 2-cycle tecumseh mowers pictured, finally found a Wisconsin 2-cycle, and I have an older snapper 2-cycle I'm not sure who makes the engine. Guy I bought it from said its a Clinton engine, but it looks tecumseh-ish to me...just older. No name or engine numbers on it. Only thing I see is a patent number, which I could probably Google and see who has the patent on it. It has a twist knob behind the tank (which is mounted on the front of the engine) to control stop, fast, slow, choke, and off.

#27

M

Mow Joe

The ones with the twist knob at the tank were 3HP Tecumseh. They were an engine option for the 19".

I'm sure that's what it is then, the mower is a 19". I'm not crazy about that particular mower or engine honestly.

I don't think I've ever seen that 3 hp tec engine before. Hey that shelf setup u got in your shed is nice, I like the arrangement. I've been thinking about getting a 10x10 for just that purpose, maybe next year. Of course, I still need to figure out a better place for the firewood.

Last weekend I found a couple good old snapper 21s at the local mower shop that lets me take stuff out of their "junk pile" out back. I didn't have my trailer so I'm heading there tomorrow to pick them up. One is a mid-80s key-start 4hp Briggs. That one is probably going to a friend of mine that wants the deck but there were some others that caught my eye that I need to rescue. I'll post info when i get them home. But having a shed like u got there would because good place for any of my non-op units and parts. Hmmmmm...

It wasn't shat I had hoped. Rust covering everything, couldn't even remove any nuts and bolts. I didn't take a close enough look at it last week when I found it I guess. Oh well. I'll keep looking.

I will see if I can get a picture of the 3hp tecumseh 2-cycle up for you.

Even if you couldn't get what you were after, atleast you have a mower yard to browse through. I've got nothing here, sure wish there was!

#32

Snapperfreak

Snapperfreak

Yep the guys at the shop are pretty cool there. Since they know I'm a nut about the older snappers they'll even keep an eye out for "junk" I may want. My favorite mower I actually got there, the 1987 214X1PR-2 two-stroke Wisconsin Robin. Some guy just left it and bought something new. I cleaned it up and it runs great. Didn't even need a carb cleaning, just cosmetic clean-up was all I did.

Sorry it took so long, but here it is. This engine has a different style recoil than all the other ones Ive seen. Maybe its older? I bet mowjoe has the answer!

Ya I can't say I've ever seen that particular engine/recoil. Is the s/n visible on the decal?

#35

M

Mow Joe

Pretty much everything without the safety handles (pre-1982) had vertical pull starters. IIRC, the 4 cycle Tecumsehs used this starter too, but it was covered by the gas tank. On the 1982 and newer mowers you had to stand somewhat to the rear of the mower to start it and squeeze the handle, which pretty much required the top mounted recoil, so it could be angled back.

#36

Snapperfreak

Snapperfreak

I knew about the pre-'82 thing but the tecs I have seen from back then had the recoil where the gas tank was covering it. That design with it off to the side is a new one for me. Tecs are sure rare out here, would like to find one.
