Harmony HRB215 issue with mowing

I got this older Harmony HRB215 from a relative, first thing i did was take the blade off and sharpen it. The mower starts and runs great, but when I try to mow any thicker longer grass, the blade sounds like it disengages, and stops spinning...I can lift the mower then and hear the blade engage again, but it will keep disengaging as I mow and seems to get worse the longer it runs...I wish I would have mowed before I took the blade assembly off to see if it was like that before, but I didn't...So now I don't know if it is something I did putting the assembly back together, or was it like that before..
Does anyone have any idea what is wrong?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Most Honda HRB models have a blade clutch (yellow button on the handlebar), and if the engine is running fine, but the blades aren't turning, it could be something with the clutch, or the cable that controls it. The clutch is a moderately-complex assembly, so if you're comfortable wrenching, I can share a few pages from the shop manual. First, let's get the serial number off the back of the mower:

Thanks Robert, I'll look at the number when I get home...It does have that yellow blade clutch button your talking about. It engages fine, and will cut some, but I think the clutch is slipping out when i get to heavier grass... Just wondering if I put it back together correctly. I think that whole assembly came off when I sharpened the blade last year...
I'll report back with the number tomorrow.

Thanks

The blade(s) is held on with just two bolts; no need to remove any of the Roto-Stop clutch parts. If you have removed them, it's entirely possible something was not installed correctly, which might be the source of the problem. Or, might be the clutch is just worn out and needs to be replaced. I'll show you some drawings when I get the serial number.

I did realize later that the blade was on there with 2 bolts, and I shouldn't have taken the clutch assembly apart. I thought I put it back the way it came off, but you never know...
back with the serial number tomorrow.

thanks

Here are a few pages from the shop manual to show you how it should all be put together.

If the blades are slowing down but not the engine, the clutch itself could be worn out. It must be removed and the lining measured (minimum 2.0mm). Before going that far, I'd double-check the cable and ensure it is fully operating the clutch and had not stretched or is out of adjustment.
