Working on a 126t02 model Briggs. 0299- b1.
Has a rewind starter.
Start to pull the rope to start it, get the rope pulled out about 6 inches and engine stops you strong and sudden. Like it locks up. My first thought was it was like it was out of time and sheared flywheel key, but you can release tension on the rope, start to pull steady and firmly and motor starts and runs fine. Doesn't miss a beat when running.
It doesn't do this hard stop while starting every time, but it does it too much for me, every 4 to 5 times....... I'm lost and looking for ideas. Customer broke the rewind starter and that's how I ended up with it....... Don't want to break another one.
Well, it was buggin me so I checked the flywheel key, it was slightly sheared......... Replaced it with the same result.
First pull is hard, difficult and will stop after pulling the rope about a foot. Let the line go back in, on second pull it's much easier and starts right up......................
