Hi all, I'm new to the forum, I was hoping you could help me with my 60's era Gravley super convertible. When I engage the mower deck it stalls the motor. The motor is at max RPM, when I put the engagement handle, I can feel the mower deck engage than the engine dies. Anyone have a suggestion as to how I can fix this this issue?

Thanks,

Jager

Is the deck spindles free to move, can you move them by hand? I the deck is working right and spins free with no binding then I would look at your carb and your governor. Is the linkage bent and move freely. Is the chock all the way off. Maybe you could post your model # serial # ?

The blades seem to spin OK, I can start the mower with the brush hog engaged. It's just that when I have the engine running first, engaging the mower completely stalls the engine. I will check the spindle again to make sure it spins freely.
I think the carb is set OK, the motor runs well. Like I said, I can start the engine with the mower engaged, and once it's running, it's a kick butt machine. And I should know, it's kicks my butt every time I get behind it. :confused2:

Thanks for the reply,
