I have a ZT1840XL riding ZTR mower that I am having blade clutch engagement problems. It stated with the clutch disengaging after 5 minutes use and then engage/disengage at random. It seemed to engage normally after siting for a while, but started the same problem.

I disconnected the various electrical clutch connections, cleaned a sprayed w/WD40. Now it won't engage at all. I can find no relay for the clutch so I guess it could be the palm switch. Anyone know the best way to trouble shoot this clutch. I hate to buy one unless I'm sure its bad. Thanks

When the clutch is in "fail" mode, shut engine off and disconnect the clutch wires. Check for 12v across those 2 wires going to the clutch wires (before the clutch connector).
Another thing you can try is to "not" start the engine, but have your key in the "on" position. Engage your clutch switch. You should hear a "click". If you do or if you don't, move all the wires associated with the clutch. If there is a wire/connection problem, you will hear your clutch click on and off. Then you can locate where exactly in the wiring the problem is.
