Gravely 2350

I have a Gravely 2350 (0 turn) mower. It seems to not get enough power to turn motor over. It turns 1/2 rotation then stops. It is like the motor is locked up but I can spin it. I have bought a new solenoid, battery, and starter. Still not help. Any suggestions???

If it is an OHV it could be the camshaft. It has a mechanical release on it that seems to fail often. It's job is to slightly open valves during start to allow pressure release.

You don't say engine model and numbers. Would be good to know if you are looking for answers. Different engines mean different solutions.

Engine Model # SV720S

When I pull the plugs out, it will turn over. But not when plugs are in.

I suspect the valves are out of adjustment. This website might help you. Page 70.

I adjusted the valves and still not starting.

Did you try it before you reinstall the valve covers to see if it always stops at the same point? Did you set all four valves at .004"? If you turn the engine over by hand were each of the valves opening at the proper time, including a slight opening on compression release?

I am having the same problem with my gravley 2350. How did you solve the problem?

Can you try this. Can you jumpnthe starter directly with either another battery or battery charger. This way we can determine if it is an engine problem or an electrical problem.

Yes I can jump start it. It has a new battery and a new starter.

Yes I can jump start it. It has a new battery and a new starter. I will only turn over about a half a round by it self then lock up. If you take the plugs out it will spin.

Not what I mean. When you jump start it directly to the starter, will it still stop? If it does then it is an engine problem. If it spins through normally then it is a tractor electrical problem.

When I try to start directly from the starter it still wants to stop turning.

This is getting confusing, because there are two posters trying to get answers at the same time. Todrich, you jumped this tread, and I can't help akranch and you at the same time. If you have the same problem, read what is posted for akranch please. Once his problem is solved, maybe yours will be also.
