Grass Diverter Insanity

Greetings,
I hope I don't rant (too much) but that black piece of plastic designed to push clippings towards the ground is making me crazy. Within a few weeks of buying my Troy-Bilt self-propelled mower, it fell off and I ran it over. I contacted the local dealer to put in some kind of claim but got the brush off. I then bought a cheaper replacement from Amazon which worked OK for a couple months now today I noticed it had developed the dreaded sag so it too fell off and of course I ran it over.

The thing works fine in the beginning. It fits on the chrome tube well but eventually for some reason its starts to sag and start falling off. It's a bad disgne to begin with but I'm hoping some forum members have an alterative to this setup or at minimum a way to keep the damn thing attached. I thought about very small auto hose clamps. I'm sure there are much better workarounds for this frustrating problem. Is there a better product out there that will stay on? So far I've had the one that came with the mower and the Amazon replacement, both of which seemed to work unttil failing. Any insights would be appreciated, thanks

Auto Doc's

Can you provide the product label information?

Troy-Bilt has a lot of different models other than just the one you have.

OK I'm aware that Troy-Bilt has many models but the hinge springe door gizmo with diverter has been around forever. My 2010 model had it (and yes, it also had the same problem as my new one). Anyway, here are my new model's particulars:

Model number: 12AVB2R3766
Serial number: 13E0RK20542

Thanks for the help.

I don't know anyone who uses the things. Many people remove them or rig them to stay pulled out of the way.

Now we get an idea of what type of mower you have.
Is this what you are talking about?

The spring loaded mulch chute keeps the exit chute on. You have to have the correct size and it does a good enough job of keeping the chute in place. Put mechanic wire on it if it is bothering you.

The spring loaded chute does keep it on but only if the chute doesn't start slipping off the chrome bar, which mine always does. Eventually it will fall off and if you're not paying close attention, you run it over. It's a bad design. The first one I chewed up came with the mower so it was the correct chute and the second one from Amazon was identical. As you suggest, I intend to wire or tape the next one on to the fitting so this doesn't happend again. Thanks for the advice..
