I have what I am pretty sure is an ancient push mower, and despite my best efforts, I have been unable to find anything out about it! I know it is a "Cougar", as it states so on its bodywork. I also know it has a Briggs and Stratton 3.5 hp motor. It starts second pull without fail, and this is my second year mowing the yard with it, it cuts perfect, despite its less-than spectacular condition!

I am requesting any information that can be offered about her, and also, if it would be worth anything restored, where I could find original parts for it. There is a gaping hole on the left side of the deck, but should I restore this beast, I have a good friend who does top notch sheet metal work, and will do it for free. The rest I can handle on my own. I have all four original wheels, with hub caps, although the tires are in horrible shape. I also do very regular basic maintenance to it.

Somebody's gotta be able to help! Please and thank you!

Hate to say this, but I think your Cougar is only about 40 years old. If you look at the engine model numbers the first two digits of the code number are the year the engine was built. Don't think it is worth much even if it is restored.

I appreciate your input! Even at 40, it is older than I am by 13 years, and I'd still like to know who made it and where to find info. It would be worth something to me restored, if nobody else, and, maybe later down the line it would be! I will be buying a cheap one from Home Depot soon enough, and would like to work on this old girl even just to keep me busy when I have down time. I'm a sucker for aesthetics, and I can see a sweet lookin mower in this thing when it is done!
