Wife is taking her parents on vacation next week, they will be going to Alabama to stay at the beach. So happy I don't have to go. To me it seems just plain STUPID to spend four days driving there and back and pile up 2500 miles, spend $350 for gas, just to waste most of your time sitting on the balcony of some overpriced, $3500 a week condo.

SO HAPPY I AM NOT GOING. To me, even when I was working full time, vacations were just a stupid waste of time and money.

You got it right, for what the wife is spending on this stupid trip we could have our asphalt driveway redone, or get new tires for two of our cars and have several hundred bucks left over, and the money would go to support local businesses not some group of rich investors who are probably overseas......:frown::thumbdown:

Just the opposite in my house, I'm retired the wife still works, I'm heading to myrtle beach for 10 days to play some golf, she is staying home, family has a house on a golf course there so the only expense is 2 tanks of gas (total trip) and food. I would be playing golf here anyway so can 't figure that cost in. We have been doing seperate vacations for 10 yrs now and we both enjoy them and the time away.

Been married 30 yrs this month, we have never had any problems, we enjoy different things when not working, niether is "forced" to enjoy what the other enjoys, we do go fishing together on occasion, our newly wed daughter and her husband are the same way, her mother in law has a fit when she lets her husband go hunting etc, she thinks he should have to ask permission to go. It drives me nuts when guys I play golf with get 4 or 5 phone calls from thier wives while playing checking on them and asking when they will be home, Oh and by the way my wife cuts the lawn, she enjoys working in the yard.

Great for you if that works out, my wife and I have very few shared interests but we have been together 20 years now.
