I've got a troy bilt mower with the ubiquitous gcv-160 on it. When I bought it, it started on the first pull every time. Since then I've installed a new air filter, and that's about it. Around that time it became difficult to start on the first use of the day. It takes 4-5 pulls and then starts slowly. Once running, it runs great, and after subsequent shutdowns, will start with one half half hearted pull. My first thought is that the airfilter was the culprit, but with the air filter off entirely, it still behaves that way. Does it sound like something with the automatic choking? This is my first honda, and it looks completely different from the briggs that I'm used to working on. Just thought I'd get some ideas on here before I go tearing apart/ replacing things.

Make sure that the automatic choking is working, and then give the carb and tank, pipe's a good clean out. if that doesn't work come back...!
