I have a 2004 X485 that the gauge runs past the the colors hot. I have used my IR temp gun on it and it is always 179-180 degress at the water outlet of the engine and radiator hoses.
I put a new temp sending unit on it, not help.
Also, when I engage the deck the gauge gets hotter immediately.

I really don't think it's running hot or it would be junk by now.

Has anyone experienced this before.

I would check all the ground connections to be sure all of them are in good condition.

Take sender out and connect wires so it works. put it in a container with water and a thermometer. Heat the water with a heat gun or torch and see if thermometer and gauge are close in reading as temp rises.
