Fuel Shut off solenoid is smoking

Tried to start my mower the other day and it started then shut itself down. Tried to start it again and as soon as I took the mower to the on position, the fuel solenoid valve started smoking. I am going to try and take it apart and clean it today. Can I just bypass it without it having any bad effects? How much is it to replace one of these?

Model number is Craftsman 917.276600

I don't believe you can take them to bits, and no you can't bypass it, better if you just replace it.

You "are" talking about the fuel solenoid under the float bowl on the carb. Right? If so, it needs to be replaced. I don't think you can take those apart. I am assuming this is a Briggs & Stratton engine, but you haven't said what engine is on this machine
