I stopped at my local Scag dealer today and the parts department is stocking the third different brand of fuel filters since 2008 when I bought my Tiger Cub. I replace fuel filters yearly and when I attempted to replace the second fuel filter it streached as I tried to remove the fuel hoses as it was soft from exposure to the ethanol. I had to cut the hoses and replace the hose from the filter to the fuel pump when I connected the new fuel filter. This problem makes me think that the plastic fuel pump should be replaced periodically as it may have the same problem, however I haven't heard about any abnormal fuel pump problems other than on older Kohler engines. I service the mowers for several cemetery associations that still have older Kohler engine powered machines and have found that I need to replace their fuel pumps every 3-4 years. Several of the cemetery machines have over 3,000 hours on them, these Kohler engines are no longer in production but parts are readily available.
