Fuel Filter for 2 Stroke

I have a 3HP tecumseh 2 stroke engine from the early 80s. I have to rebuild the carb but it needs all new lines. I figured, while I was there it couldnt hurt to add a fuel shutoff valve and fuel filter if space permits. My question is: can you run a normal fuel filter with mix gas? I would imagine it should be fine but just want to make sure.

Well, fuel passes through filters fine in handheld, so you'd imagine it would be ok. But maybe not with a paper type filter. I'd suggest the B&S inline filter.

I think I'd use a screen type filter or one of those cloth type, if I'm not mistaken and someone correct me if I'm wrong but I think you have too have some type of fuel pump for a paper filter. The screen or clothe is all I've ever seen in a 2 stroke. Most of the Stihl units use the screen type and Echo uses the clothe for there mix.

I would experiment take a piece of fuel line a funnel and a couple different kinds and pour the mix through. See if they all look the same after filtered and inspect the filter when done maybe cut them open see if they get oily I would try it but I don't have the time
