I have a worn solid shaft and shaft tube bearings in my FS 66, which causes a terrible vibration and noise at cutting speeds. Replacement parts are unavailable, although I did find something used on ebay. On advice of a good repairman, I took out the shaft and reinstalled backwards. Since the bearings were not pressed in symmetrically, the worn parts of shaft are no longer riding on the bearings. The machine is now running like a beast again, and the noise is gone.
A question- the air filters are hard to come by. I replaced the foam pre filter with a Kohler filter and just cut it to size. The main filter appears to be made of 1/8 inch felt. Can I replace this with a normal piece of felt from a crafts supply shop and just cut it to size? I'm a little worried about getting a similar air flow. Any suggestions?

I found an overseas vendor for the filters- $10 for the parts and $20 to ship to US!
