HI everybody,
I have a 16.5 /42 MTD riding lawnmower that my brother gave me.. that his neighbor gave him. Last year I thought the front end seemed a little "sloppy" and this year I'm going to try and do something to make it more stable. The axles on the mower are 9/16 as measured by eye with my tape measure, and the holes in the tires rims are 11/16. And there is a plastic bushing in the the rim. I'm wondering if I have the wrong tires on the mower, or if I need a new bushing because the old ones are worn out.
Thanks for any replies in advance.

Just replace the bushings as long as the spindles are not damage. If damaged replace them too.

Thanks for the reply StarTech. I should have done a search before asking. I was just surprised that there would be any bushings at all, but I suppose one would rather the bushings wear than the axles... My son is a machinest, and made me some from Delrine. The only problem is the tractors black, and he made the bushings out of red delrine.:p

My problem isn’t fixed, so I’m back for more advice..TIA. The bushings my son made weren”t right as he got wrong information from his dad...now he’s busy at work and I didn’t ask him for his help agin.. Meanwhile I decided to change the front tires because they were pretty smooth, and the new tires are a wider than the old tires. At the same time I also ordered the bushings. Now my problem. The tires are still very sloppy. I don’t think the bushings I got are correct. I “persuaded” them into the rims, and they are about as sloppy as the ones I removed...I thought the persuading part might make them tighter On the axles. Also with my new tires I need some kind of spacer between tractor and rim to keep them from rubbing on the tractor itself. My attempt at making spacers moved the tires out but its not ridable except to go from the back yard to the garage to work on, and making the turn in the driveway they were WAY leaning. The tires are also pigeon toe but I’ve done a search on fixing that.
new tires are : 15x6.00-6NHS
tractor model: 13BN682G129
serial # : 1D223B80290
again appreciate the help. I will try and post some pictures when I figure out how to do it.

my picture attempt. If not clear enough I have about 3/8 between top of tire and tractor.

Since writing this I have found a front end diagram from parts tree. I will take a look and see if I can ask the right questions. I
already see the difference between the bushings and the ones I have. There is also a couple of spacers on the parts list. To be continued....
