free wisconsin engine running question

got a free 10 hp Wisconsin yesterday,the owner started with a auto coil jumped to 12 volt battery and point box,not wanting to ask questions i took it home.now i wonder whats wrong with its own coil no spark plug wire coming from flywheel cover?guess im missing some parts also like to know why it ran like that thank you,i,ll post pic later.also what does bracket mount? thanks

Ok its missing the magneto for sure and he made it run by bypassing it.

It depends on the engine, and how it is set up. A small engine can either have a battery ignition system, or a magneto ignition system.... A battery system normally has a charging system/battery etc.... And a battery style coil, with the battery style points/cond. Or could have a magneto type..... So we need your model numbers and a good look at it's original application...
