flywheel

I just replaced the starter in my mower. I have a 20hp briggs and stratton twin cylinder. I removed the flywheel when replacing the starter. Everything is back together and the engine cranks but won't start. Any ideas?

If you didn't get the flywheel nut/bolt properly torqued you will shear the flywheel key immediately on start attempt.

Thank you for the reply. Would the flywheel still be spinning if this was what was wrong?

the flywheel would still turn the engine over, and still have spark, but the timing of the spark will be wrong and will not start or run. I have seen them get sheared and the flywheel turn 180 degrees from where it is suppose to be.

You were right it was the flywheel key. Can you tell me the correct procedure to replace it. How much torque should be used when putting the nut back on?

Right off the top of my head, the big inch and something nut is 150 ft/lb, and the bolt is 75 ft/lb

I am glad I could help. I got a zt2766kp swisher mower in yesterday, that somebody that they could rearrange the wires on. They pulled the wires out of the electric clutch, then screwed roofing screws into where the wires go, and then wrapped the wires around them like pegs. the wire coming from the electric clutch is appliance cord, that they wired directly to the key switch. They added fuses to the wiring harness, then wired a jumper wire around the fuse holders, therefore bypassing the fuses. the right spindle shaft, bearings, blade, and blade holder are missing.

And that is what I have found so far.
