yth2348 Intek V-twin 445577 While mowing engine started to bog down, then sounded like I hit a rock (but don't think I hit a rock) and then engine died and now will not crank. The starter will spin the flywheel but the flywheel does not engage the crankshaft. I can spin the flywheel clockwise by hand. The oil was down half quart but I doubt that damaged anything. Could it be the flywheel key? Where should I start?
Could be the flywheel key, but I’m guessing you may have broken the connecting rod. Remove the spark plug and insert a wooden pencil or dowel into the spark plug hole as far as you can. Slowly turn the flywheel by hand and watch the pencil. If it moves I’m wrong, but if it doesn’t move, you’ve got internal damage.

i'd bet good money, sounds like a broken rod. do what Rivets told you to and you'll find out.
