Im working on an older a Sycamore model number S22-278 with a Briggs and Stratton 3.5 hp. I replaced the generator in it because it had no spark. added fresh gas to it. cleaned the air filter. It ran for about ten minutes and stalled out. I was wondering what would cause this. Any suggestions would be greatfully appreciated. Thank you very much.

most smaller mowers have no fuel filter...it could be a carb problem....and i assume you meant coil when you said generator?............... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QtryRjKUkl8 ........does it look like this?

rgr that i call it a generator, i am kinda new to this i just enjoy tinkering. I drained the fuel, there is no room for an inline. but I kind of rushed everything because my family was gone and I was home alone.

get some starter fluid and take off the air filter and squirt it in....if it runs...its a carb problem......you can also pull the plug and ground on the engine block and pull the cord to test spark.[best when dark]

If I might make a suggestion here, I'd advise using a squirt can filled with gasoline rather than using starting fluid. The gasoline has some lubricating properties, and won't explode like ether can, possibly causing damage to the engine, like a bent rod, broken piston rings, or a cracked piston. Just my $.02.

I will try that as soon as I have a little decent weather up here. thank you very much.
