Hello everybody. I just got my hands on a 1997 SR1028 and snapper 10cu metal cart. Looks like it was repowered in 2011 with a B&S 17.5 hp. Everything runs good. Little bit of learning curve with mowing. I ate up my front yard. Deck too low and made turns too fast, haha. oh, well.
The only problem is it doesn't idle well and had a couple backfires. I suspect the float needle fouled. I've drained and put fresh gas with a little seafoam in tank and drained the bowl on the carb. Spark plug looked good. I plan on running through the tank to see if it will clear. Any other suggestions before digging into the carb.
Fun fact: Original paperwork came with the mower. It was purchased in 1997 for $1595.00. The cart cost $135.00.
I purchased my first Snapper RE mower with 33" hi-vac deck in about 30 years previous to yours for about a $1000.00 less. I guess its a sign of the times. Welcome to the forum and good luck with your new toy. When adjusting your deck for level, try to get each side the same height. I made myself a wooden tapered piece to slide under the edge of the deck to check height when on a flat, level floor. Good luck.

Yes, it’s the carb. I cleaned and soaked mine for a few days. New spark plug and exhaust gasket too. Mine actually had a very “good’n’loud” backfire when I began working on the motor. Scared my wife half to death. Lol
