Fh601v

My dads john deere 717 with the FH601v stopped running.he said it ran for awhile then stalled,then started again sputtered then stalled
this was i guess after mowing for awhile.Then he tried to start it again and all it does is turn over.Any Ideas of what it could be??
I'am guessing something to do with fuel filter or carb.Any help or suggestions greatly appreciated .

1)out of gas
2)solenoid on bottom of carb not opening
3)Float in carb stuck, holding needle shut
4) gas cap vent plugged, but it should have started later, if that


Will it start with starting fluid? If yes, then it is a fuel problem.

has a full tank of gas
cap was off last try
so its one of the other hopefully
going to check those out tomorrow
