Ferris Zero Turn

Would anyone have an idea why my Ferris Zero turn runs for hours without a problem. The next time its used it runs but if you shut it off the battery is dead. There seems to be no pattern to when the dead battery will happen. I have mowed 30 minutes and shut it off and it may start or be dead, I can mow for hours and never have a problem. I have replaced the original battery thinking it might have a dead cell but that was not the problem. It has a 23 horse Kawasaki motor. Thanks to anyone who can help.

Are you sure the battery is dead? Think the next time time it did it I would start bypassing kill switches one by one to start. Charging system has to working or you wouldn't be able to mow for extended periods without it dying.

Yes sir, the battery is dead. If it's in the mode of killing the battery I have had the electric blade clutch stop working while mowing which when the mower was turned off it would not start until I charged the battery or jumped started it. Battery Charger also shows battery dead. Battery takes a charge and everything is good to go again until it decides to drain the battery again. Seat kill switch, nuetral steering switches and brake "ON" switch all seem to be working properly. Two days ago my daughter was mowing and when I took over mowing the motor was left running, blade clutch was shut down and brake put on. Never shut down engine. I released brake and pulled blade clutch knob to activate blades. Blade clutch would not engage. I moved mower to shed and shut the engine down. I tryed to restart and battery dead, "barely" engaged starter. Charged the battery and mowed three hours yesterday without a problem. Tried to start engine then just to see if battery was dead. Engine fired right off. Darn thing has me stumped. Thank you for your input.:thumbsup:

Could it be your charging regulator is not working as it should? It may only work randomly or not allowing enough juice to run the machine and charge the battery. If the mower never dies while mowing, it may be the battery has gone dead and you're running directly from your charging system. gregjo1948
