didnt get many responses on the bobcat/dixie chop post.. so i want to inquire about ferris.. my local lawnmower dealer recommended the ferris line.. either 1500 or 2000, both 61" deck

i have thick, bahia grass in central florida, and it rains almost every afternoon.. so it grows fast.. im mowing about 5 acres, mostly flat land.. it currently takes 3-4 hours to mow on my cub cadet and have to go slow in thick grass.. i am looking to cut that time down drastically, and cut that thick grass at top speed if possible

any comments on the ferris's capability for speed and power cutting in floridas thick bahia grass? i cant say ive ever heard of ferris.. it be nice to get a little feedback from end users, especially over dixie and bobcat

thanks for the replies!

From what I have heard Ferris make a very good line of mowers. Your now cutting with a Cub tractor. I would guess that your going to save time with a ztr but not because they go 4 to mph faster than your tractor but because they have better steering and can turn better and trim better. 5 acres is a lot of land for a mower to do but there are ones that can do it better than what you have now. So I figure 60"deck with a Ferris could be your answer.

If your lot is bumpy and you can swing it I would go with the is2000z over the 1500. The 2000 has 4 wheel suspension and the 1500 has a pivoting front axle. I mowed around 15 acres of Bluegrass/Fescue mix last year on a 2000 w/61" 30HP It took around 2hrs 40 min each time I mowed.

i talked to my local lawnmower company.. the 2 i decided between was the hustler fastrac super duty or the ferris i700, both 60".. he recommended the ferris.. i drove it, liked its speed, opted for the high back seat if i go with it.. ferris has the 28 hp briggs stratton commercial turf engine.. the i2000 were a lot more expensive.. the i700 is $6000, another reason i liked the ferris is for the 2 year warranty and the additional 2 years for personal/homeowner use (non commercial)

central florida location.. im mowing bahia grass

does $6000 seem like a fair price?.. and anyone have the 28 hp briggs stratton commercial turf engine?

thanks for the replies!

I found a used Ferris IS 500Z with 60 hours for $2900 but was 150 miles away. And with no dealer anywhere near me I had to pass. I was really wanting that easy ride I hear of with Ferris. Good Luck
