Ferris mower trouble

I just had gotten a Ferris walk behind 48" its an older model with probably 300-400 hours on it. I got the motor fired up after a fresh oil change but it won't move forward or reverse. I have experience with these so I know I'm doing everything right it just won't move or even try to move. I would really appreciate any help.

is it a belt drive or hyrdo, either way check drive belt to trans or hydro pumps, if gear box is it good? are the output shafts turning,? are the pulleys full of grass? if it is a hydro are the deump valves closed, may have been opened to move it if it wasn't running, Need some more diagnosis on your part to really help

It is a hydro. This mower has been in a garage untouched for 2 years and I got it for free so I'm unsure if the gear box works or not i was told it ran perfecft before it wasjust put away tI put the two free wheel levers in both positions because I am not sure which position will engage the transmissions. Whenever its running and I push the ground speed lever to the top nothing happens at all there is no sign of any parts trying to move this mower has all of the linkage is hooked up to the hydro pumps and I see the levers on top moving but nothing happens. Could it be that its not getting any power from the engine?

Will it move if you push it when the engine is off? If so I'd say it's the valves on the hydros set for moving it around.

like I said check your hydro drive belt, is there fluid in the hydros. ? are you letting off any parking brake it may have? you did say you saw the linkage moving on the pumps correct?

It does not move when I push it around with the valves in either position. All the linkage is there and it all works I have checked everything and it all looks right. Just nothing happens at all when I try to push up the ground speed lever

See if the key / key way on the drive wheel broke - axle can be turning but the key failed ?
Jack up the mower , remove the pin holding the wheel on the axle , pull the wheel off .
Grease it when you put it back together .

To clarify what you are saying, with it not running can you push the mower around? with it running can you push it around ? if you can push it around then the dump valves are either not closed all the way or both wheel motors are bad which does not seem likely.

I cannot push the mower running or not with the dump valves in either position. I drained the hydro oil today and changed both filters but I noticed the oil lines from the resivoirs are dry rotted out so I'm picking up new lines tomorrow. With both pumps not working could it be a blockage issue somewhere? I just can't see both pumps being broken

OK then that should tell us the pemp motors are good, I still say are you sure there is no brake that is engaged, not real familiar with Ferris, but most hydros have some sort of brake system and that is what sounds it is like, what is the model and ser # on it , I will take a look at parts breakdown and see if I can see anything, I would hold off on the hoses until you get it moving at least, don't need to get air in the system until you know it is working ok.

The model number is dds48ka and the serial number is 451my there is a big parking brake lever and it is off so that's the only brake I know of.

From what I could see I would follow the parking brake rod down to the bottom and make sure all linkage is actually moving, something could be hung up from sitting for so long.

Here is a link for owners manual if you don't have one already.

I finally got it all back together the belt tensioner spring was off so I have the tranny belts tight and everything. I started it up and let it run and when I pushed the forward level to full speed the tires moved very slow and I did have the mower up off the floor on a jack and the tires just barely moved any ideas? Thank you
