I bought an older Ferris 36" walk behind about 10 years ago and it has served me great for my 1/2 acre property. some time ago the trans started acting up when you put it in 1st gear. it would go a bit then nothing...

I knew something was up, but it wasn't on my priority list, so I just used 2nd and 3rd most of the time. Now 2nd is doing the same thing and I have to use 3rd and above...can anyone point me in the right direction to fix the problem...short of replacing the trans?

I've seen a youtube video of the inside of the trans and understand how it works, but can't imagine why only 1st and 2nd would stop moving. could it just be the shifter/cam piece with the teeth?

We would like to see the inside of the trans too but have no way of knowing what you have. Could we get a model number for the trans not the Ferris but the trans.

I can't tell you the model number but it seems to be similar to the one in this video:

I'm just wondering if this is a common problem?

I've been riding and working on dirtbikes for over 20 years but I'm pretty much a beginner when it comes to this stuff.

She won't be able to get parts if you can't get the model number off of it. But that looks like a water item. So it's very possible that is what you're going to need. But no real way to know until you tear it apart. The outside case should have the model number on it.
