On my SRX75 mower.... coil went out... not having much luck finding one anywhere. I don't think this JD uses a seperate igniter... i've looked everywhere and haven't found one.
21121-2058 is the coil number.
i can find them for the FC400 etc... they "look" the same but not sure if they'd work or not.

There is reason why the OEM coil is so high as they are NLA .originally they were $55. The vendors that still have some are pricing them higher just because they can.
There is one on Amazon though for $39.99 plus $1.74 shopping and says in stock.

I'll tackle it tomorrow when its less humid

I figure you knew that the coil was bad after testing the coil's resistances so I didn't look up the actual wiring of that engine. But since I have, did you replace the ignitor module [PN 21119-2161]? If not then it is likely to root cause and it should available in aftermarket or you could the universal version that Stens has under PN 440-465. But also make sure the kill circuit isn't grounding out the ignitor when it is not in shut down mode.
Ignitors [electronic triggers] are more prone to be bad than coils. It is the same with coils with built-in ignitors. It just they are not replaceable in those coils.
PDF page 42 has the resistance checks for the ignition system. Just note the ignitor resistance checks don't cover every failure.
As a side note I had one these ignitors to fail once where it would randomly misfire on compression stroke and when the wasted spark worked nearly sat my pants leg on fire [about a 12" flame thrower] and sounded like my .357 going off.

good lord I feel stupid.. I didn't think third one used an igniter because the one wire that comes from thr coil goes into a bundle with 2 other wires and it looked like it went to the key switch... and I guess I lost track of that wire but there it is now that I stood on my head.
I've got an new rotary igniter or two around Here somewhere

Thank You StarTech.....
oh well new coil and igniter never hurt anyone...... yet.....?
Yes but still hurts to pocket book. At least hopefully you learn something. It when we keeping making the same mistakes is when it is not good.
Been there when I first started working Kawasaki engines. I brought a few new Kawasaki coils [$$$] from JD before I found how to cross reference to Kawasaki numbers. Since then I learn to always look up what I am working on see what is in involved. Later versions of Kawasaki engines can be either way.
But things still can bite you at times like forgetting to reconnect the fuel line on a rebuild of a FS106 two cycle. That one got me last weekend but I found it going through my checks but still feel stupid for over looking it on the re-assembly.
