Farewell to a Legend @Startech

Well fellow mechanics, we have lost one of our most valuable forum members a couple days ago, Startech. I swear, this guy was literally in almost every post and was top poster of the month more times than I can count. He had 11,048 posts. Think of all the people he has helped on this forum with so many posts. Too many to count. I miss when he would give us projects to diagnose just for the fun of it. Now, he did get a bit cranky from time to time, but its for good reason. We miss you startech, and hope you would consider coming back. Feel free to share your memories of startech or some projects he helped you with or something. Maybe startech will see this memorial and come back. Who knows? Doesnt hurt to give it a try.

Sorry to hear that. Startech was one of the most helpful members here.

I wonder why he left? Moderators got on him?
He has helped me before and it was obvious he was an expert on small engines and small power equipment.

If he reads any of this? Please come back!

He got mad with tiger Small engine for not fact checking his message before he posted it. Kinda drastic to leave the forum over that if you ask me.

Hopefully StarTech reconsiders and comes back on this forum. Knowledge is power. When I make mistakes I learn from it, admit it, make a concerted effort not to repeat the mistake, and move on. People need help, and people need people.

@StarTech has helped me out so many times. The OP scared me, I thought something had happened to him, other than just not posting.

WHAT? StarTech is one of the pillars of this great forum. Dude helped people all the time, for FREE. Took a ton of his personal time daily to be on here making a difference.

Come back StarTech. Freaking guy probably forgot more about mowers and engines than most of us have in our heads. Huge wealth of knowledge. He was one of "those guys" that make this mower forum the best on the internet.

That's what I was thinking when I started this thread. There should be a title on this forum "lawn genius", just for Startech.

Star is a good guy, he doesn't like to see wrong or misleading info given, which I completely understand..
We'll leave a light on for you Star.

I thought he wouldn't come back, that's the only reason I posted this. I'm very grateful that he changed his mind, I think everyone is.

Guys, I will not be posting much at all. As I am trying my best not to. It is hard after helping people for over 40 yrs so bare with me as I train myself not to post. There have been several threads so far I have resisted posting in already. Hopefully you guys can understand why. But I will still be checking the site just to keep my troubleshooting skills and parts research skills honed as it is beneficial to my business.

One thread is with the incorrect cylinder head bolt torque spec and another is the 2008 Dixon 60" wiring diagram request.

Briggs changed the cylinder head torque spec and the service manual has not been updated. I actual wrote up a post a week ago but never hit the post button.

And the Dixon wiring schematic is available on the Net, just got to know where to find it. Could have posted on where to find it but didn't. And that 2008 did have two different wiring setups depending the serial number break. The OP on that tread did post enough info to figure out which one he needed without the serial number.

A recent MTD steering related problem is one I have some insight on too as I spent some time figuring that problem on several mowers as there is a slight design problem that is easily corrected by changing one screw/bolt. Of course the other damage had to repaired too. Also there is a better steering shaft than the original MTD shaft in that case available. Costs the same but much better made.

On the taper bearing preload I could have given what JD specs the torque at for the Z830 and Z900 series and how to they are adjusted after the initial bearing cup settling torque but I didn't. And I only had one Dixie Chopper here under my wing so I never needed the service manual per say.

I just got tire of getting bit for trying to get posters to do their research as I do the same before I post an answer as incorrect info can have serious damaging results. Just throwing something out there just don't cut it with me. Sorry for being a professional and learning that DIY hacks to equipment just causes problem down the road.

I still might to slap someone up the side of their head from time to time just to jar their brain cells.

You're just tired of the new members not giving the required info when they start a thread huh? I remember a while ago I would spend all day, everyday on here too.

Good to see you back Startech.

seen this posted:
People need help, and people need people.

AND
reminds me of this statement that I seen sometime back.

I was a people person, but people ruined it for me.

Stay Calm.
