Extended Warranty worth it for Husqi?

I just bought a Husqvarna Fast Tractor YTH24K48: Kohler courage 24 HP engine , Hydrostatic , 48 inch...has the new tranny that makes it go 7 mph .

What is the feeling on buying extended warranties with these...Are they worth it...or are they a waste of money?

Is it more likely or less likely that I will need major repairs in first 4 years?

I have not seen a machine that didn't eventually have a part break or fail in some way. The question is, when will it break? The gamble for the issuer of the extended warranty (insurance policy) is that they know a certain amount of failures will happen and they are betting the failure rate is low and will make money even if they have to pay a certain number of claims. But on the other hand this extended warranty gives the consumer "peace of mind" during the warranty period. One major factor is how the equipment will be used and how often. Any part can break at any time. For instance: the average automobile is made up of over 15,000 pieces and parts. If that automobile was 99.9% perfect, 15 parts would still break. Take all the factors into consideration and ask yourself if the "peace of mind" is worth the additional cost.

For me, the times I bought an extended warranty the product lasted well beyond the extended warranty period and the times I didn't buy an extended warranty the product lasted well beyond the same period. Go figure. YMMV

with Husqvarna i would buy the extended warranty i just picked up and 04 with 65 hours on it and i bought it to fix and sell but it has alot wrong with it i was kinda taken aback when i seen the low hours and all the problems i used to brag on Husqvarna but i think I'm changing my tune

Scott, I would think that the condition of the tractor is directly related to how it was cared for during it 65 hour life. There are those that disconnect the hour meters so that may or may not be a true indicator of use, and there are people that do not store their equipment in doors when not in use or they chose not to serviced the equipment in a timely manor.

I know that Husqvarna is not what would be concidered a top of the line tractor, but it should be capable of lasting for many years with reasonable care.

As for extended warranties I think much of it depends on how handy the individual is. If you are capable of doing your own maintainance you are ahead of the game and may not need the extra warranty. If a engine is only expected to last a few years then it was junk when it was new.

Just another opinion.

yes i understand all those good points and i understand the last owners may have not taking care of the mower how ever it does look like it was stored inside as the body is in perfect condition but I'm sure the maintenance wasn't kept up on it and I'm not complaining its all stuff that can be fixed rather cheap I'm just pointing out that the Husqvqrna i don't think has lived up to its name the one i have now witch is a 04 and the 2012 that i bought and had for 2 weeks before getting ride of it I'm not saying not to buy one I'm just saying if the guy isn't mechanical then he may want to go ahead and buy the warranty

I agree. I tend to think that part of the enjoyment of ownership is working on the equipment. I also own a Husqvarna its a 2011. I still have not totally decided on how I feel about it. So far it has done the job. However, time will tell.

I use to buy extended warranties on everything and never used one of them. About 3 years ago I quit buying them and still haven't needed to use one.
I know that eventually I'd probably wish I had gotten one, but with the money I will have saved on not buying them I'll still be ahead.
