I recently aquired a second LT160H42CBV2 [LX1642H] and at the time I thought it to be the same tractor as the one I already owned and had bought new in 1998. However, while they both have the same rear wheel size, they have two different tire sizes. One has 20x10.00-8 and the other has 18x9.50-8. All the tires appear to be the original aged Monitor brand. What is to be gained by having two different rear tire sizes? I believe I am baffled. Thank you for any and all responses.

Different tire sizes would give you different gear ratios and different ground speeds. One would be just a bit more powerful with the same engine hp and same axle ratio. The one with bigger tires would have just a little faster ground speed while the other would have just a bit more pulling power with the same engine hp and axle gear ratio or pulley size. Did you check to see if both tractors have the same size pulleys and the same axles?

Advantage manufacturer and no need to look any farther.

Good idea! I think they have same transmission but I never thought about pulley size. I might look in the parts breakdown catalog to see if different pulleys were available. Thank you. I can also see the other line of thinking where it is just plain cheaper to use smaller tires. That was where I was leaning. Thanks for that thought also. Has anyone else out there run into this situation? And does anyone out there still mow with their LX1642H tractors? I would like their opinions on this tractor. I know mine has lasted a long time--16 years! Thank you for any and all replys, past and future, as they are all greatly appreciated.---bjaytodd.
