Engine Swap Wiring Confusion

I'm having a problem that I hope someone can help me with. I have a Snapper rear-engine riding mower that I'm replacing the engine on. The wires coming off the old & new engines (both are B&S) aren't the same, & it's got me confused. I've attached a pic so that you guys can see what I'm talking about.

The black wire on the right is to the ignition coil. I know what to do with that one. But the gray wire with it goes to the carb solenoid, which the old engine didn't have, so I don't know what to do there.

That leaves the red wire on the left, coming from the engine, & the white wire beside it, coming from the mower. From what I've been able to find on the Internet, I believe these 2 wires should be connected, which would enable the battery to recharge. Is that correct?

If someone would clear this up for me, I'd greatly appreciate it.

In case it helps, Here's a pic of the old engine & what that white wire plugged into. The red wire on the right charges the battery, from what I've found & been told. Not sure what the black wire on the left goes to, though, but I *DO* know that it does not go to the ignition coil.

The new engine with the solenoid requires 12 volts when the switch is turned on. I am not sure if your switch has the contact arrangement to supply 12 volts to the solenoid when the switch is turned on. The old engine just used the switch to start the engine and connected the charging wire from the alternator to the battery when engine is running. when the switch is turned off the coil wire is switched to ground to stop the engine. Hope this may be of some help.

The following link is to the wiring schematic for my mower. I'm not very good at reading these, but it looks to me like there's no provision for a carb solenoid. Is that correct? If it is, then what do I do? Is there a way to disable the carb solenoid? After all, the old engine (the old & new ones are both B&S Inteks) doesn't have a carb solenoid on it, so it must not be necessary, right?
