Engine shut off and will not crank

I was cutting grass when suddenly the mower shut off for no apparent reason, not a stumble just quickly shut off.
1. Attempted to restart and would not crank. None of the dash lights were lighted either.
2. Battery has been fully charged and no improvement
3. Battery terminals are corrosion free and cables are secured on both ends.

As a side note when normally starting I have to at times cycle the key a few times before it will begin to crank. Typically always lighting the dash lights but not always cranking.

Does this sound like an obvious problem or can anyone tell me what to check?

Look at where the ground cable bolts onto...

If you are not getting lights start with the large terminal on the solenoid going to the battery. Nut might be corroded or loose.

Has the fuse been checked?

You got me thinking... I visually checked the fuse and it looked ok, but thanks to you I did a better check with a multimeter, and what do ya know! 30amp fuse was the only problem!

Thanks especially to Mikel but also to others who helped! Off to cut my long grass!

Glad you got it:thumbsup:
If it blows again, you probably have a short. Yeah a fuse can look fine but can still be bad. A quick ohm(continuity) test will tell you if it's good.

Now the same fuse is blowing when I try to turn on the deck. Whats this mean?

You have a short in the wiring or a faulty switch. I would check for any damaged wiring.

Negative on any found damage. What else can I check?

Check all safety switches. Sounds like one of them is being triggered.

Check your electric PTO clutch - may be shorting internally.
