I have a briggs 19 horse on a yard machine rider and the engine is quite loud. I have a round muffler which bolts to a short pipe which is bolted to the head. The muffler and pipe are good but as I mensioned it sounds loud when it runs. The muffler comes out of the engine on the right side and has a pipe toward the bottom for the exhaust discharge. Is there a way to make the engine quieter?
Can you provide the manufacturer label information of this yard machine along with the engine information stamped into the top of the valve cover?
There are hundreds a of assembly variations, without the numbers, we are just spit balling ideas.
Sounds like the muffler has broken or rotted out internal baffles from your description. They tend to do that with years of use, especially in high humidity areas or if the machine sits outside in the weather a lot.
