Post your engine numbers, my ESP is fuzzy and the government spy satellite is down true to sequester. If it is an OHV engine , I suspect you will have the adjusted the valve clearance.

Pull your oil dipstick and check the oil level. If it's unusually high, you may have debris in the carb and the needle might not be seating properly and filling the crankcase with fuel. That would definitely make it hard to start. Good luck and keep us posted.
