I have a 1982 F340 engine from a Lawnboy Scamp model 8603 20" self propelled mower. I also have a 1994 Lawnboy Gold Series model 10520 21" self propelled with an F series engine. What I want to know is are the engines on these two mowers the same? The only difference I can see is that the older mowers carburetor is plastic. Any information from you readers is most appreciated!!!!

I believe the scamp's self-propel is shaft driven, while the gold series has a drive belt. I also believe they have different ignition systems.

Thats true but what I want to know is can the Scamp engine be used on the model 10520 deck. The 10520 model has a 3 speed belt driven transmission and the scamp has a belt driven roller that contacts the rear wheels. I got the scamp hoping the engine could swap to the 10520 if need be. The deck on the scamp is rusted badly barely enough to support the engine.

What is wrong with the engine currently on the gold series? Maybe we can be of help to you there as well. I'd say you could do the engine swap, but you'd likely have to use the engine mounting plate, and shroud from the scamp to do it. Personally, I wouldn't like doing that, but it's your machine. As far as the self propel function, I thought all older mowers were shaft driven, but I've never had any dealings with the scamps. Good luck.
