I have a LT 1024 cub cadet mower. Recently I noticed a very loud rattling noise from the front end. After further inspection i found that it is the electric PTO clutch rattling on the clutch bracket. It is very loud and gets worse with each mow. It does this with the deck off and both with PTO engaged or not. The blades do engage with no issues at all. When inspecting the pto you can move it side to side easily when the mower is off, it hits either side of the bracket. Is this a sign that something such as the PTO bearings or springs are going bad? Is the PTO itself going bad? Or should i take it off and make sure it is seated properly?
make sure the bolt that holds it on the crankshaft is tight. If that is tight but the pulley wobbles around it sounds like there is possibly a bad bearing. Unfortunally the bearings in most clutches are not easily replaced. Sometimes can be odd sizes.
