Does anyone remember whether or not sales of electric lawn mowers reached their peak between 1979 and 1983? Why this year range? Because, 1979 marked the second oil crisis, whereas by 1983 the economy started improving again, and with lower gas prices people went back to buying gas mowers again.

I don't mean this to sound like I'm not taking your question seriously but I'd like to think that if electric mower sales peaked and declined around that time it was more a matter of people realizing how much of a pain extension cords were and that electricity is overall one of the least "green" sources of power.

One minor crisis was all of the fuel stations having to recalibrate their pumps for calculating fuel costs over $1 a gallon, they never planned on that extra digit, kind of a mini y2k crisis!!! Hell half of the kids here have no idea what that was, without Wikipedia!!!!!

The internet makes a lot of folks instant experts, but that cannot replace old folks that still can remember!!!!!!

Don't know about being an old folk but I do remember mowing around the Oliver dealership with a GE Elect-Trak E12 I was fairly young but I remember that thing was quite powerful, I believe it had a 38 or 42 inch deck. The thing weighed a ton it was battery's from front to rear but we would use it to pull dead tractors into the service bays, one thing for sure it didn't have traction problems.

I can't remember how a Oliver dealership come to have a electric lawn tractor, it was the only one we ever had and was around forever no one seemed to want to invest in an electric lawn tractor.

Yeah, an electric rider must have had some serious batteries, like a forklift, which probably didn't fare well in moist soil in the spring......
