ok, so I have an echo srm-225 that I bought used because I thought I could fix it... (I usually can) it will run and die when I pour some gas into the carburetor opening but that's it. I cleaned the carb out and it still wont run should I try rebuilding it or just buy a whole new carb? thanks and please help!

Are you using Echo 2-cycle oil mix in gas 92 or 93 octane?

I'm using echos oil and regular gas in it my other echo runs great with that gas/oil the guy I bought it from said that it sat for over a year with gas in it so I'm sure it's just plugged up beyond just rebuilding the Carb. Wouldn't you think?

Have you already changed the plug, both the air and gas filter, checked the spark arresting screen?

I just checked the spark arrester screen and its fine the trimmer looks brand new it just sat for a while and the primer bulb just broke as well so im just gonna get a new carb

I would replace fuel filter & fuel lines. I would clean ultrasonically and rebuild if needed. Easier to just buy a new carb.

It really is much easier to simply replace.

got a new carb and fuel lines on the way i'm praying that it will run after that idk what i'm gonna do if it doesn't I paid $60 for the unit then another $45 for a carb and lines so I figure $105 isn't bad for an echo trimmer if it runs that is.... thanks for the help/input guys! glad to be a part of this forum!!!

From experience it will probably be the carb :) these machines are so simple there really is not much else that can go wrong.

I don't have a manual on the 225, so what carb have you got..?

I firmly believe that all machines should be repaired not trashed that's why I am here. The 225 carb kit costs about $20 labor to do it is about an hour probably more for someone who doesn't know what they are doing yet. I don't know about you but an hour of labor for me is about $25 so for a rebuild on this carb it would be close to 50

A new carb is less than $40 that's my logic

Well, you can't legally, but unofficially you can adjust the high speed needle jet, which has a plug that must be removed to gain access to it for adjustment. Also, you can adjust the idle speed. You can find the carb parts list and exploded 3-D image on the Echo website. The currently used carb is a Zama RB-K93, which can be purchased new for as little as $35, so there's no reason to bother trying to fix one.

Shouldn't adjust the carb it runs a little lean but that's ok. Still has enough power and if you run it every few weeks for 5-10 mins you'll be ok

Now that you have explained and giving him something to think about.....much better then just jump in and say "buy new one" no fun intended.

And yes you have to think about the cost and ask yourself is it worth it...!

I was just reading from another owner of the same type trimmer and problem;the problem with his Echo was a gas needle spring.

Just buy the new gaskets for the carb. They are usually cheap. I would do this before I bought a new one only because it is cheap, and if it work then you save a few hundred bucks and if it dont work you only lost maybe 10 bucks.
