Echo PB-250 piston installation

Can someone give me a lesson on how to put the cylinder head back on the piston? I've put a new ring in it maybe it will help the compression some but when I started to put the piston back up in the cylinder it will go just over the ring and stops just out of finger tip reach to try to see if the ring needs some more compressing but I can't get it to go on over the cylinder. Is there a certain position the cylinder should be facing? What am I doing wrong? I've put rings on before but haven't had the trouble I'm having now. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Many of the two cycle engines I;ve worked on had a pin for indexing the ring on the piston. Or you might have gotten the wrong size ring. Hope this helped
