So, my neighbor who owns his own lawn care business put this mower out on the street. My old push mower has holes rotting in the deck so I pushed it to my backyard. I checked gas, had some so I fired it up. Started first pull, but smoked like crazy and seemed to run at very high rpm. Again, new to this mower so maybe that is normal? Let it run for a while to see if it cleared up but didn't, and would occasionally bog slightly then run what seemed like normal. After shutting it down I checked the oil. If I put the dipstick in without twisting it read normal. If I twisted it it showed over full. So I thought too much oil. I pulled the carb, cleaned with carb cleaner no oil left. Pumped some oil out, now when twisted it shows in the normal. Started back up and smoke was less but not nothing, never bogged but after running for a bit I removed the filter and saw more oil in the carb intake. Seems like oil is coming out of the tube connected to the side of the carb. Not sure what that tube is exactly but it runs into the side of the engine.
So, after all that, what is going on? Is this thing salvageable? Should I just use it and let it smoke and top off oil? The high rpm thing has me curious, but I only dabble in small engine repair. Help?????
This is the nicest mower I've ever owned, even if it smokes!!!!
