Eager-1 engine problem

I have a Craftsman with an Eager-1 engine. It cuts great and starts on the first pull, but it seems like it was burning oil. I went ahead and changed the oil and then added a very small amount of something like motor honey to it, which solved the smoking, but it still has a very strong fumey smell. Is this normal? What would happen if I tried a synthetic oil? Thanks

Sound like you have a Tecumseh engine that is starting to get old. Probably burning oil passed the valves or rings. I would continue using it the way you are until it dies. Don't waste $$$ on a unit burning oil by using synthetic.

If your not blowing out blue white smoke out the muffler , enjoy the new crappy motor oil . The shop has been plagued for 2 years now with lack of oil damaged engines ..... It isn't like oil of the 1980's

I just remembered that after I noticed it smoking a little bit I noticed that the (I forgot the exact name) oil was leaking out of the little pressure release thingy on the top of the engine under the fly wheel. So does that mean that I had put too much oil ^in it? Because after I changed the oil and added a little bit of motor honey stuff it stopped leaking and smoking, but it still emits a strong fumey smell that burns my nose. Is it still burning off the extra oil or is this smell normal? Thanks.
